Our Story

I remember opening our doors on a sunny Saturday of September 2012…

With only the trade of the antique’s centre to ride off, taking on what the previous owners couldn’t wait to get off their hands. I was armed only with my knowledge for good food done the proper way, about £800 in cash flow and the best cake baker around. As a team of two we soon started to build up our own reputation and picking up loyal customers. We quickly had to expand, bringing on board friends & family (some cracking memories of my girlfriend Alice’s dad washing a mountain of pots and pans soaked from head to toe). It’s amazing what people will do for a free Sunday lunch!

After exploiting my loved ones for as long as possible. I had truly realised the power of family and never wanted to lose that in our team. Over the coming years we created our style from the ground up, bringing on board experts in their area, whether it be the simple yet complex world of coffee, to the baking of the perfect French lemon tart. We may have moved on from our humble first restaurant into new modern surroundings, we may have grown beyond our wildest dreams, however our family and our values will always remain as they did on that sunny day in September.

Who is Christian?

Who is Christian…?

Christian Ogley

As a child, I was a terribly fussy eater. Despite my parents best efforts, I ate the same meal for an entire year (microwave pizza! Hardly a high-end choice.) Luckily for me, a close family friend and talented cake decorator taught me how to bake as a child and saved me from culinary despair!  I remember baking as being so fun, and I was encouraged to experiment with different flavours and techniques; this is where my passion for food really came to light.  As a teenager, I worked in several kitchens, and worked my way through the ranks from washing pots to working alongside some of the most experienced chefs in the area.

I grew up in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, and although I love Yorkshire’s beauty and fresh food, I always imagined growing up in the city. When I was 18 I moved to London to study graphic design, although I found myself far more immersed in city life; unfortunately my studies lacked as I was more fascinated with the buzz of the city and the vast array of culinary concepts. At the age of 20, I packed my cosmopolitan experiences and brought them back to Yorkshire, where I luckily stumbled across the opportunity to own a small café, where I could apply everything I had learnt both in kitchens and in trying a variety of different cuisines in London.

We believe our menu reflects the flavours of Yorkshire, using local produce whenever possible to create our heartfelt and honest homemade food.
